5 Reasons Why You Understand Things Differently

Ever asked the question, why people understands things better than some people?, why some understands things quicker than others or why some people understand things the way they do?.

One major problem in communication is misunderstanding and this has shredded apart many relationships, business, family, love relationships and friendships.

People understand things differently because they view them in their various perspectives and hence assimilate them that way.

Ever played a game that talks about transmitting an information to a number of persons but keeping the information original ?. Have you noticed that from the first recipient to the last, the message never stays the same?, somehow it changes. It changes because some things are just filtered, some words replaced and some added.

Watching this game played always amuses me how a message can be assimilated and interpreted differently by various people.
Sometimes it can be very annoying to be misunderstood and sometimes can be very difficult to see things through other’s perspective.

So let’s discuss on some of the reasons why we understand things differently.

Manner of Interpretation

A good communication is incomplete without it’s right interpretation. It is very core and it’s the one thing that causes a lot of issues. The question, “are you okay?” could be understood differently due to it’s diverse interpretation. The difference actually lies in it’s conveyance, the tone and the way it’s being expressed. So this is one of the reasons you understand things the way you do.

Level of Exposure

The same way you understood things as a kid isn’t the same way you understand things now right?. Well it’s because you’ve grown, you’ve had more experiences, more exposure and learnt new things.

As we grow we drop some mentalities, misconceptions and thoughts and along the line we pick new methods of doing things could be positive or negative. Our perspectives changes based on different levels of exposure.

Permit me to say, someone who still thinks as a child would have some limitations in assimilation and understanding. Hence, this is why we don’t all see and comprehend things the same way cause of level of exposure differs.

Surrounding Environs

Yeah your environment has a way of interfering with the way you see and perceive things. The social values has an influence, we may not know it but now we do. It has a subconscious effect on us.

We tend to comprehend things only within what we can see and can relate with/to. This is why adaptability to a new environment can sometimes be uneasy cause you’re not used to that system and don’t hold same core values as them.

So yeah, you’re not wrong if you say it has a way of messing with our level of understanding.

Philosophy of life

We all hold some philosophies of life some way and it definitely differs . Our distinctive ways of seeing life has induces our understanding and how well we receive things. People with the ideology that love is not real will react to a love topic negatively while others who do believe in it would react inversely . So you see our philosophies and ideologies does play a role.

Background

How do you think the rich kids would react to poverty?, it would be foreign to them and thus difficult to deal with and comprehend right?. How about the average income kids?, it wouldn’t be that hard right, if at all it would be. Then what do you think about the poor kids?, they know it and can understand cause they are struggling with it, isn’t it?.

My point exactly is to illustrate how our various backgrounds influences our level of assimilation and comprehension. Well that’s why we think differently.

We can’t all think alike cause we don’t have the same level of exposure, background, philosophy of life, surrounding environs and manner of interpretation. So these are 5 reasons why you think and act the way you do.
